mod7 is a small digital agency that provides strategic, award-winning, creative ideas and solutions via interaction design and motion graphics. We develop interactive properties that communicate emotively through design and storytelling for entertainment properties, medium- and large-sized businesses, and forward-thinking brands.

We are seeking to fill the position of Associate Art Director. The AAD reports to the Creative Director and works with the Interactive Producer, the Lead Interactive Developer and Frontend Developers to craft exceptional work ranging from websites, online games, mobile applications, desktop apps, print collateral, online videos, motion graphics and branding/identity. The ADD has a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) and a minimum 1 to 2 years of fulltime agency or studio experience. A passion for typography is critical, as is a thorough design process that meets interactive and communication challenges with insight and inventiveness. Above all, like everyone at mod7, the ideal candidate is obsessed with consistently creating great work.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Interpret audience needs, client goals and design direction from the Creative Director to create appropriate design solutions in a variety of media (with a focus on interactive).
• Perform project research and synthesize fresh and relevant insights that drive concepts and design decisions for entire projects.
• Create UI and motion prototypes.
• Create cohesive and rigorous identity programs for implementation online, in print, television and other applications.
• Develop style guides, design specifications, and user guides.
• Develop visual blueprints and lead others in implementation of blueprints.
• Graphics production.
• Handle change requests.
• Quality assurance to ensure proper execution of visual, interactive and motion designs.
• Brainstorm with team members and work with the collective to surface fresh solutions.
• Educate and motivate the mod7 team to aspire to a higher level of visual and interactive design and process.
• Figure out how to get the job done, offer process improvement suggestions and help out wherever necessary as part of our small team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent)
• Strong base in the interactive and communication design discipline—including, but not limited to, typography, colour, static layout, interactivity, motion, sound, video, and the value of a consistent conceptual approach in design.
• Solid understanding of interactive and online best practices and usability.
• Good "soft skills" in communicating to clients (both technical and non-technical), other team members, and outside contractors.
• Solid understanding of XHTML/CSS.
• Expert Photoshop user.
• Expert Illustrator user.
• Expert InDesign user.
• Comfortable with After Effects.
• Comfortable in using Flash for animation and prototyping.
• Comfortable with PC OS, or Mac OS.
• Can quickly learn new software.
